Evolution of The Mega-Scale Data Center & Tales From TOR-1  is a half day event in Toronto, ON, held in the Lennox Hall at the Toronto Board of Trade. Meet Our Keynote:

Scott Davis – Former CTO, DuPont Fabros Technology

Scott A. Davis has over 30 years of Data Center experience, specialized in the engineering, design and operation of high-reliability Hyperscale facilities. Mr. Davis was formerly the Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President for DuPont Fabros Technology, Inc., (DFT); responsible for the design and management of DFT’s portfolio of thirteen Data Centers which comprised over 1,880,000 square feet (~175k m2) of computing space and 347MW (megawatts) of critical UPS power capacity. During his time at DFT, Scott and his team have pioneered several new innovations to data center design, including MV Isolated-Parallel UPS, MV oil-filled PDU’s, together with several cooling innovations that have achieved real-world PUE’s of 1.15. Prior to joining DFT, Mr. Davis served for eight years at AOL where he oversaw the day-to-day operations of all of AOL’s domestic and international data centers. Earlier in his career, Scott worked for several consulting engineering firms that specialized in data center design and construction, including CCG Facilities Integration. Mr. Davis earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland.

Meet Our Panelists:

Sean Smith, P.Eng. – Principal and Director of Business Development, Morrison Hershfield

Sean is a Principal with Morrison Hershfield and has been at the firm for almost 20 years. He has worked in both Canada and the U.S.  In his role, Sean is part of the leadership team for Mission Critical Facilities and is involved in business development, general management, project management, design, analysis, field review, and construction management for a wide variety of data center, telecommunications and other critical facility projects.

Dan Jolivet, P.Eng. – Vice President, EllisDon Corporation

Dan has 20 years of experience in completing Major Construction Projects throughout the Greater Toronto Area.  Dan has been responsible for some of EllisDon’s most complicated Projects such as the SickKids Research Centre Laboratory, The Scarborough Hospital Expansion and Toronto General Hospital.  Over the course of the last 7 years, Dan has lead EllisDon’s initiative in the Data Centre Field.  He has worked on more than $500M (combined construction value) of Data Centre construction of which about $120M worth of work has been in existing Operating Data Centres.

Matthew Zieg – VP National Accounts & Business Development, Vertiv Co. 

Matt Zieg is responsible for managing the growth and development of strategic accounts in key market verticals, such as Colocation, Retail, Healthcare/Insurance and Utilities.  In his 20 years of service with Vertiv, Matt has contributed in varying roles, including engineering support, marketing and sales.  His diverse background, including experience as an IT business analyst, has helped Vertiv’s business expand into new markets and strengthen enterprise relationships. Matt holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Ohio University.

Zenon Radewych – Principal, WZMH Architects

Zenon Radewych joined WZMH in 1995 and became a Principal of the firm in 2007. For the past 15 years, he has led the firm’s mission-critical practice and has overseen all data centre projects completed by WZMH. He is directly involved in all data centre projects from start to completion and is instrumental in developing the initial concepts, working closely with the owners and engineers to develop highly efficient and reliable solutions. Zenon holds a Bachelor of Technology in Architectural Science from Toronto’s Ryerson Polytechnical University.

 

Steven Dumas – VP, Design Management, Digital Realty

Steven has over 30 years of experience in facility design, construction, and operations the last 15 years exclusively in the data center industry.  The unique multiple discipline background has provided Steven with the opportunity to experience and drive numerous state-of-the-art designs ranging from 100% free air/adiabatic cooling to water side economizers with chiller assist as well as distributed redundant and catcher static UPS topologies to Iso-Parallel Rotary UPS topologies.

Jakub Pawelczak – Manager of Project Delivery, Morrison Hershfield

Jakub Pawelczak joined Morrison Hershfield as a Project Manager in the Project Management Services Group. Jakub has experience as a Project and Construction Manager in Mission Critical facility installations across North America and the Caribbean and with complicated MEP design-build projects globally. Prior to joining Morrison Hershfield, Jakub worked as a Project Engineer for a Toronto-based consulting firm in their Data Center Design Build division and as a Project Manager for a Toronto-based manufacturing equipment and automation manufacturer and installer.
