Improving Building Facades Through Over-cladding

This webinar will focus on the existing building landscape, current building stock and suitable candidates that could be considered for over-cladding renewal projects for mid to high-rise construction.

Event Information

As building codes are becoming more stringent and there is a societal shift to improve building energy performance in an effort to reduce our carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions, designers, engineers and manufacturers are continuing to look for innovative design solutions to respond to these challenges. As we continue to evolve and advance our understanding of building design and construction techniques with a focus on improving building performance, we wonder whether our existing building stock is at risk of falling further behind and becoming obsolete. Or perhaps you are simply tired of ongoing building performance related issues that result in repeated occupant discomfort and complaints. Façade over-cladding is a viable solution to address some of these issues while also providing improvements to overall building energy performance.

This presentation will focus on the existing building landscape, current building stock and suitable candidates that could be considered for over-cladding renewal projects for mid to high-rise construction. It will include high-level design requirements, component and system selection, and devilish details that should be considered when working with existing buildings. Touch-on plant review (QA/QC controls) for steel panel fabrication, some tips and tricks that should be considered when selecting steel panel cladding systems, and some sample case studies of over-cladding renewal projects completed in the Ottawa Region.
