Glazing Systems: Lessons Learned from Lab Testing Failures

This presentation will review a variety of different failures that have occurred during laboratory mock-up testing, which reveal deficiencies in the design, assembly, or installation of the glazing systems.

Event Information

Curtain walls and window walls are typically specified to meet a variety of different performance and testing criteria, defined by specific codes or industry standards. Full scale laboratory mock-up testing of glazing systems can provide a valuable demonstration of a systems’ ability to perform to specified requirements. We will present a variety of different failures that have occurred during laboratory mock-up testing, which reveal deficiencies in the design, assembly, or installation of the glazing systems. This webinar demonstrates the importance of lab testing as part of a quality assurance program. We will include recommendations on when laboratory mock-up testing should be considered and which tests should be included.

Learning Objectives:

  1. To become familiar with the typical procedures and standards used for laboratory testing of mock-ups.
  2. To understand the potential significance of failures discovered during laboratory testing of mock-ups.
  3. To understand the value or limitations of typical “optional” test procedures.
  4. To better determine when project-specific laboratory mock-up testing should be undertaken.
