November 28, 2018 at 8:00 am - November 30, 2018 at 5:00 pm UTC-5

JLC Live Residential Construction Show

JLC LIVE Northwest showcases over 70 building product manufacturers, 5 LIVE building clinics and over 40 conference sessions, making it one of the Northwest’s largest regional trade events! JLC LIVE will take place on November 28-30 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland.

We’re excited to be presenting at this year’s JLC LIVE. Eric Corey Freed will be presenting two sessions, “An Optimistic Report from the Dystopian, Apocalyptic World of 2030” and “Tapping into Nature’s Technology: Growing Buildings”.

Registration and additional information can be found here.

Session Overview – An Optimistic Report from the Dystopian, Apocalyptic World of 2030

In the last decade, carbon levels increased 20 parts per million (from 380 to 403), the population grew by one billion, global temperature increased by half a degree Celsius, and 25 percent more people moved into our cities.
The world is rapidly changing and will be a very different place by 2030.  In this talk, we’ll explore dozens of disparate trends in technology, sustainability and the construction industry and connect the dots to get a glimpse into how we can save the world AND save our businesses at the same time.  You’ll learn how to stack emerging trends to forecast opportunities in the green building space.

During this energetic and entertaining session, we’ll train and engage attendees in a collaborative process to better address systemic barriers to healthy, high-performing, sustainable, resilient buildings.  Together, we’ll acknowledge the challenges and complexities facing project teams pursuing net zero / zero carbon projects and how to identify the risks amplified over and above a conventional development.

This session will take place on Wednesday, November 28 at 2:00 p.m. More information here.

Session Overview –  Tapping into Nature’s Technology: Growing Buildings

The way buildings are built today has remained relatively unchanged for nearly two hundred years.  The $9 trillion a year global construction industry is responsible for nearly 60% of climate change emissions, a third of landfill waste and a shocking array of negative health effects.  Even the most advanced construction projects in the world continue to use ancient techniques of modular assembly, relying on painstaking human effort to construct dead & ancient materials of wood, steel and concrete. Construction is driven by standards and codes to ensure economy and safety, but in the process fail to protect people from larger risks. This sessions attendees will learn:

1. Identify the value of exponential thinking in approaching your design problems
2. Discover the methodology to the XPRIZE for Healthy Buildings and how such innovations were formulated
3. Uncover new ways to approach healthy materials that avoids trying to be less bad, and into something regenerative
4. Develop a roadmap for your own projects and the future of Living Buildings

This session will take place on Thursday, November 29 at 7:30 a.m. More information here.
