by Wilson Lam, P.Eng., B.A.Sc., M.Eng., L.L.M.
Friday, September 22nd – 10:30 am: This case study will describe an approach to assess and recommend an overall strategy in addressing the challenging questions concerning the disparity of life expectancy and maintenance efforts of the existing substructures, and those of the new superstructure, and the correctness of this method of rehabilitation.
Wilson is a Principal and Senior Structural Engineer at Morrison Hershfield. He has 12 years’ engineering experience with planning, analysis, design, contract preparation, and design review of highway structures. Special Accommodation for Structural Steel Coating of Burlington Bay Skyway
by David Wang, MASc, E.I.T.
Saturday, September 23rd – 8:30 am: Recently the Burlington Skyway in Hamilton, Ontario, underwent a complete replacement of the steel coating on the truss members. Additional gravity loads and wind loads from the resulting scaffolding and environmental enclosures posed serious structural overload concerns. Learn how we were able to accommodate these challenges and deliver the project on time with no significant traffic delays or disruptions while maintaining structural integrity throughout construction.
David has been a Structural Designer at Morrison Hershfield since 2013. He has experience in the design and planning of highway bridges and culverts. He specializes in advanced computer-aided analysis of complex truss and shell structures. David’s previous research experience includes the use of ultra-high performance concrete as applied to accelerated bridge construction methods.
