Join the Morrison Hershfield team for a tour of the City of Edmonton’s newest transit facility, Kathleen Andrews Garage. The LEED Silver certified building, named after Edmonton’s first female transit operator who was hired by ETS in 1975 and worked with the City for 23 years, opened its doors in 2020. It occupies 10 acres of land in northeast Edmonton and accommodates approximately 300 ETS buses and over 400 City staff who maintain and deliver bus service for Edmontonians.
During the tour, you’ll have the opportunity to see innovative technologies and listen to our experts speak on the following topics:
Innovative and environmentally sustainable features of the garage that make it one of North America’s leading transit facilities. Features include a reinforced roof to support the future installation of solar panels and a rainwater collection system to sustainably support the bus washing systems.
ETS support functions such as Technical Services, which keep all of ETS’ information technology systems working including mobile data terminals on buses, radio communication and security cameras.
Arc is the Edmonton region’s electronic fare payment system. The Arc lab, located in the garage, is where we test the smart fare technology and continue work in rolling out Arc to different transit fare groups across the seven participating regional municipalities.
As a bonus, Kathleen’s daughter, Lisa Andrews, who has followed in her mother’s footsteps and is an instructor with ETS, will be on-site to share her mother’s story and legacy.
