BECOR Sustainable Renewal of Residential Buildings: Holistic Sustainability, Going Beyond Energy

May 31, 2018 at 8:00 am - 5:00 pm UTC-5

BECOR 2018

The Building Envelope Council Ottawa Region (BECOR) is a full-day Technical Series conference held in Ottawa, ON. This year’s theme is Opportunities for Sustainable Renewal of Residential Buildings. On May 31, 2018, join experts to learn about sustainability factors beyond calculable metrics of energy and carbon reduction and how they affect our built environment and human wellness.

Register here.

Presentation Overview:

Our current challenge to adapt and rehabilitate older properties into sustainable, passive and soon-to-be regenerative buildings, presents an incredible opportunity. The focus on calculable metrics like reducing carbon and energy consumption (payback, NPV, ROI) is necessary to justify decision making and project initiation but is too narrow. What about the people who live inside these buildings? How do we leverage this work to improve indoor air quality, thermal comfort, resiliency, resource consumption and waste, durability and health and wellness?

Please join two LEED Fellows and Building Sustainability Champions, Mark Lucuik and Jamie McKay, as they discuss the importance of and opportunities for identifying, incorporating and implementing less tangible and less-measurable sustainability goals. In concert with other energy efficiency strategies during their presentation Holistic Sustainability, Going Beyond Energy .
