CaGBC Workshops: Applying NECB 2011 in Alberta

November 30, 2018 at 1:30 pm - 5:30 pm UTC-5

Morrison Hershfield’s Yichao Chen will be presenting Applying the NECB 2011 in Alberta: What it means for you and your projects at this CaGBC Alberta workshop in Red Deer. This session will take place on November 30 from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

More information and registration can be found here.

Session Overview:

Complying with the NECB 2011 energy code is now a requirement in Alberta and there are many questions around what performance requirements are actually in the code and how it will impact your projects. Will we need to significantly change the way we design and build buildings in Alberta? Does the NECB mean all new buildings have to have less than 30% windows? My projects use a construction type that cannot meet the high R-value requirements; will I still be able to meet code? These and many other questions will be answered in this eye-opening session, where the main objective is to empower designers, owners, developers and code officials to navigate and implement the NECB with more confidence.

The NECB 2011 energy code is now a requirement in Alberta. The NECB 2015 code changes will be required by 2019. This workshop will also address NECB 2015 additions and ASHRAE 9.36.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe key performance characteristics in NECB 2011
  2. Identify when design trade-offs may be used in certain projects
  3. Describe “lessons learned” from real project case studies in Alberta and their experiences with NECB code requirements
  4. Identify design solutions for meeting NECB through case studies
