CIRC Lunch & Learn Series: Consulting Engineering 101
April 13, 2018 at 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm UTC-5
Sean Smith, Principal, is presenting Consulting Engineering 101 at CIRC McMaster University’s lunch and learn series on April 12th. Learn about how consulting engineers offer professional engineering services to other enterprises that choose not to have suitable Engineering capacity in-house.
Presentation Overview:
Consulting engineers offer professional engineering services to other enterprises that choose not to have suitable Engineering capacity in-house. An example is a University seeking to build a new building, where a consulting engineering company will develop Structural, Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical designs for the building. Consulting Engineers face among the most diverse set of Engineering challenges in their careers and thus form a career path of choice for many budding Engineers who enjoy performing Engineering design. This session will provide an overview of the industry and typical career paths therein. Specifically, it will portray the day-to-day life of a junior engineer, and career paths they can follow. It will also explain typical business models used in consulting engineering, e.g., showing how consulting engineering companies turn a profit. The session will culminate in how a junior engineer can contribute to the success of their consulting engineering company, and thus, in turn, succeed in their career.
