Building Lasting Change 2017: Building Envelope Strategies to Achieve Net Zero

May 30, 2017 - June 1, 2017

Mark Lucuik, Senior Sustainability Specialist, and Alex Blue, Building Energy Consultant, will present Building Envleope Strategies to Achieve Net Zero at this year’s Canadian Green Building Council (CaGBC) annual conference.

Course Overview:

Net Zero Buildings are often achieved by maximizing the benefits of passive technologies, such as the building envelope, but it is difficult to know how much to invest in these technologies relative to HVAC systems or power generation.  We will explore the impact and trade-offs between both common and innovative envelope variables under the assumption that a highly efficient HVAC system is employed.  We will use our innovative energy mapping tool to compare thousands of energy simulation runs for a high rise residential building in both Vancouver and Edmonton, enabling attendees to better understand how to best invest in their envelope to cost effectively achieve a net zero building.
