ASIS 2017: Integrating Security and Life Safety

September 28, 2017 at 11:25 am - 11:50 am UTC+0

Judy Jeske, VP and Senior Code Specialist, will be presenting Integrating Security and Life Safety at the 63rd Annual ASIS Conference in Dallas, Texas. The conference takes place September 25-28, 2017. Judy’s session will be on Thursday, September 28 at 11:25 a.m.

Session Overview:

There is a common misconception that security and safety conflict when applied to a building’s design. For example, evacuation paths that conform to applicable codes or security hardware specifications may conflict with egress requirements. But, numerous projects have shown that security and safety can be compatible when the two disciplines are integrated early in the design stage. Become aware of the collaboration needed to achieve security objectives and meet applicable fire and life safety codes.

Learning Objectives: Incorporate a threat vulnerability analysis into a functional security design that includes prominent access control features for entrances and exits.; Identify the elements of risk management, school-specific liabilities, and the circulation patterns, screening of persons, and access control features that meet security and Life Safety requirements.; Use national security resources and the life safety standards of care that are required in the design of entrances, doors, glazing, video surveillance, locks, electronic access control, and barriers.
