National Building Code of Canada
With the recently signed Construction Codes Reconciliation Agreement, the provinces and territories have promised to harmonize with the national model codes (i.e. National Building Code, National Energy Code, etc.) in a timely manner, which means it has never been more important to maintain awareness of the changes that are considered and introduced in the Code Development System.
The 2020 NBC and 2020 NECB introduced some impactful changes to code requirements on fire protection, energy efficiency, and much more. Arguably, the largest change was the introduction of tiered performance and prescriptive energy compliance paths to target Canada’s emissions reduction plan for 2030.
