Building Envelope Commissioning (BECx)
As we continue to learn more about the impact the building envelope has on overall building durability and performance, the industry is also in need of a formalized quality assurance process for the design and construction of the envelope systems. Building Envelope Commissioning (BECx) provides a quality-oriented process aimed to achieve a building envelope that meets the needs of the owner and end users.
Our BECx Process
A BECx authority, like Morrison Hershfield, will engage with the owner and design team early in the design process, helping to establish a clear set of envelope objectives into the Owner Project Requirements (OPRs) and the initial groundwork for the project.
Having defined a clear OPR, the BECx authority will then act as an independent advisor, providing quality assurance and communicating requirements to various contractors as well as on materials and design review, testing and construction oversight from design through construction and up to one year after construction completion of the project.
