Session Overview: Detailing Fenestration Perimeters – Assemblies, Materials and Approaches
Air, water, and thermal barrier continuity is critical to the overall performance of the building enclosure. This program will provide an overview of the assemblies, materials and approaches to detailing fenestration perimeters for a various glazing systems and adjacent wall assemblies. Concepts to maintain continuity of the air/water barrier and thermal components will be discussed/reviewed with numerous strategies/detail examples to complete a high performance perimeter fenestration detailing presented.
The objectives for this presentation are:
1) Review the basic differences between storefront, window wall and current wall fenestration assemblies with regard to air, water, and thermal performance
2) Review core concepts to maintain air, water, and thermal continuity around the perimeter of differing fenestrations
3) Review the available materials for detailing fenestration perimeters when transitioning to adjacent rainscreen and barrier wall assemblies
4) Present various detail options to provide approaches for maintaining (or not) continuity of the air/water and thermal performance around fenestration perimeters.
