Join Morrison Hershfield at the 2023 TAC Conference & Exhibition

The Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) and local Conference hosts, Transport Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Transportation is hosting the largest national gathering of transportation professionals working in road and highway infrastructure and urban transportation in Canada. Road-related and urban transportation decision-makers, leaders and practitioners from businesses, municipalities, provincial transportation departments, associations, and academia will come together to connect and learn about new and evolving practices and challenges in transportation!

We’re excited to connect with fellow transportation and infrastructure professionals at this event. Don’t miss out!

Presentations:

Our team of experts will be speaking at the upcoming conference on improving accessibility! We’ll be discussing innovative solutions to improve accessibility with half-height curbs and retrofitting existing corridors for bicycle lanes. Join us as we explore how these measures can make our cities more inclusive and sustainable.

Accessibility Improvements with Half Height Curbs

Sept 27, 2023 | 10:30am – 12:00pm | Session: GD.10 Urban Design Challenges—Accessibility, Vision Zero and Complete Streets

Presenter: Will Rose, Transportation Engineer

This presentation will discuss the use of half-height curbs as a delineation curb between pedestrian and cycling facilities. This research and design implementation strategy aims to improve accessibility and safety for individuals with reduced visibility or those using walking canes or guide dogs.

Join us as we dive into the genesis of the half-height curb and its potential to enhance accessibility within public spaces. We will also explore the engineering details and design requirements necessary for successful implementation. This presentation is perfect for urban planners, engineers, and anyone interested in creating more inclusive and accessible environments.

Retrofitting Existing Corridors for Bicycle Lanes

Sept 27, 2023 | 8:30am – 10:00am | Session: GD.9 Urban Design Challenges—Accessibility, Vision Zero and Complete Streets

Presenter: Will Rose, Transportation Engineer

This presentation will share valuable insights on how to upgrade existing corridors to include active transportation facilities, even if they are not currently present. We’ll cover various types of active transportation facilities that are currently being used and delve into the design domains that will help in selecting the most suitable facility based on the project’s context, and without incurring high capital costs.

This is an incredible opportunity for municipalities looking to enhance their transportation infrastructure and create more accessible and sustainable options for their communities.
