Session Overview: Zak World of Façades USA: Design Implications of Envelope Backstops in Energy Code

This presentation will provide an introduction of envelope backstops in energy codes like the 2018 Seattle and Washington State Energy code and their intent of maximizing the thermal performance of the building envelope. Understanding how this will challenge the current design of high-rise developments relaying on traditional unitized glazing system as the primary enclosure system. Exploring how new approaches to the design of unitized glazing system are being developed to meet and exceed the current energy code requirements and achieve Passive House level performance.
